Agrobusiness

Farming meets business

It’s a sweet life in the Lower Rhine region: with Balisto bars by Mars in Viersen, Prinzenrolle biscuits from Kempen, and licorice from Katjes in Emmerich. But sour goes with sweet too! With gherkins by Kühne in Straelen or Sauerkraut from Leuchtenberg in Neuss.

Chemistry

The chemistry is right here

Sore and chafed baby bottoms in wet nappies are a thing of the past since the superabsorbent Favor was developed and made in Krefeld. CD‘s and DVD‘s also started their triumphant march round the world in the Lower Rhine region. They are made of Makrolon, the chemical composition of which was worked out by chemists in Uerdingen.

Energy

Powered up at all times

Boas are attracting a lot of attention: at carnival time the feather scarves warm the otherwise exposed women’s shoulders; but in the Rhineland brown coal district boas represent a step towards a new future in electricity and heat generation.

Logistics

Logistics are strong in the Niederrhein region

The Niederrhein region comprises the cities of Krefeld and Mönchengladbach as well as the districts of Kleve, Viersen, Wesel and Rhein-Kreis Neuss. Nearly two million people live here. The approximately 100,000 companies based here employ 560,000 people, of whom 63,000 work in the logistics industry.

Mechanical Engineering

Machines for the world

When a Formula 1 racing car engine is briefly revved up to 19,000 revs per minute, the whole world looks on in rapturous admiration. When a centrifugal spinning machine reaches 60,000 revs – and does so every minute round the clock seven days a week, that’s just mundane daily life.

Textile and Clothing

People make more than clothes

You can’t tell from the anti glare membrane on the Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai or the roof of the Olympic Stadium in Berlin that the material comes from Krefeld, from the long-established Verseidag, the traditional Vereinigte Seidenwebereien AG founded in 1920.

Tourism

I’m coming to have a look

Willows, Woods, Wildlife – that’s the WWW for the Lower Rhine region. But this flat land also has protruding landscapes; the Hinsbeck and Sonsbeck mountain ranges (near the Alps). You can also dive to the depths in the Blue Lagoon or South Lake.

Did you know that ...

... the shirt manufacturer Van Laack has been producing in Mönchengladbach since 1953?
